UGC in its X plan guidelines has stated that the objective of introducing CBCS is "To enhance the quality of learning and teaching process at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels".

to create a student centered learning environment and to foster the spirit of autonomy.
to give greater academic autonomy to Departments in designing courses and formulating teaching - learning strategies
to motivate students to acquire specific skills related to their area of study and facilitate them to earn more credits.
